Is your craft room a disaster? Are you unsure of how to get your creative space organized? Keep reading for the best way to organize your craft room. I’m sharing my favorite craft room organizing secret. Check it out!
Hope you had a great weekend! We had the absolute most gorgeous weather on Saturday and created an outdoor play space for the kiddos. They had a blast! On Sunday, I spent quite a bit of time in the studio. After all this is the perfect time of year for some spring cleaning. What a wonderful season to Organize Your Craft Room!
At least once a year I make a point of rearranging and reorganizing the studio – taking everything out, cleaning the walls, floor, and trim, dusting, and then putting everything back. It’s something that I’ve been doing for years.

Except this year, I couldn’t take anything out. Long story short, but with my husband working on some things in the living room, I had no where to put stuff. Go figure, right?
The awesome part of that is that he’s building us some really wonderful bookshelves! You know, because homeschool mama and all. We for sure have #bookissues
But I digress, I’m so used to having that extra space while I organize the studio and it seems like such a simple thing, but it’s really easy to take for granted.
Craft Room Organization Hacks
I’m telling you, the best way to organize your craft room is to start from scratch. I know, I know. Hear me out, though.
You’re probably like, “But Cristi…”
“That’s going to be a huge mess!”
“It’ll take forever to do it that way!”
I understand, trust me. It’s messy and it’s hard. And honestly, this blank canvas approach isn’t for everyone.
If you don’t have enough extra space in close proximity to your craft room to store things until you can finish the project, this might not be the best way to go. If that’s the case, here are a few other ideas that might work better for you.
Let’s talk about this for a minute, though. For the most part, we all have a living room.
Emptying your entire craft stash into your living room might seem like a nightmare, but it’s a great motivator to get in there and get it done.
I mean, it’s not like you want to stare at the piles each and every time you walk past them. Or maybe you do?
Usually the entire thing takes me a weekend. That’s it! A weekend… One day to get everything out of my space and of course clean and then slowly move things back in as I rearrange and reorganize the next day.
Side note: If you’re interested in making any major changes, now’s the time to paint or replace the flooring, give everything a good scrub and create a plan.
You can see my step-by-step planning process and get all the free printables I used to put together an awesome creative space here.
I know what you’re probably thinking… But why would I want to do that?
By doing it this way, you’re essentially starting with a blank canvas. Sure, it takes time and space, but the end result is awesome. And it totally isn’t as overwhelming when you’re looking at only a few things at a time.
Make sure to sort and purge as you’re bringing things back into your workspace and don’t forget to use this opportunity to rearrange if you’re starting over.
