Fine Motor Skills Examples

Fine motor skills encompass so many different small movements. Activities like grasping pencils with the proper grip, holding and using scissors, building towers with blocks, and opening latches are all fine motor activities.

Children must master fine motor skills in preschool and kindergarten in order to write properly and without becoming too fatigued to continue. Plus, they’ll need strong fine motor skills for a variety of activities in daily life too.

Fortunately, there are so many fun fine motor activities we can do at home and in the classroom to encourage our children and give them extra practice. I can’t wait to share some of my favorite fun fine motor activities with you!

Practicing fine motor skills can be tons of fun! From no-prep printable fine motor worksheets to hands-on activities and daily life skills, there are lots of ways to help your students develop finger strength. Here are a few of my favorite fine motor skills activities to do at home:

Sorting and Folding Socks

Sorting socks is an excellent fine motor skills activity for children of all ages. In addition to building fine motor skills as they choose and fold socks, kids will get lots of practice with early numeracy and math concepts too.

Sorting, matching, and pattern practice are all a part of sorting and folding socks. The best part is that they’ll be helping you get finished with the laundry too!

Making Peanut Butter and Jelly

Let your children help you prepare one of their favorite lunches. Getting kids in the kitchen is a great way to teach life skills, practice fine motor skills, and introduce science and math concepts too. Your little learners will love helping prepare the food as they spread peanut butter and jelly on bread.
