What’s not to love about hands-on learning? And of course we’re head over heels for these awesome summer color by sight word printables!
These printable pages are also a great way to work on concentration, problem solving skills, build finger muscles for better handwriting, practice pencil grip, and develop the hand eye coordination important for learning to read.
Teach your preschoolers important early reading and writing skills while having fun using these no prep printables combined with the activities below.
Stomp the Sight Words
Write the sight words on your driveway or sidewalk using chalk and then practice stomping on each sight word as your kiddo reads them aloud. Not only will your preschooler be learning, but he or she will also be developing important gross motor skills.
You could also do something similar using a hopscotch board. Instead of writing numbers in each square, write sight words, then let your child jump from sight word to sight word as he or she reads each one.
Sight Word Relay Race
Gross motor games make learning fun, especially for preschool kiddos who like to be moving.
This game is great to play with a small group. Write words on some fun summer items. You could use sea shells or even painted rocks. If you’re planning to do this with two or more teams, you’re going to want to make sure that you have a set of sight words for each group.
Create an obstacle course with the sight words at the end and then have each team navigate through the obstacles, find and read a sight word and then make their way back. Once back, they switch-out with a team mate and the fun starts all over again.
Sunshine Writing Bags
If you’re looking for a quick & easy idea for preschoolers to practice writing sight words, then make sunshine writing bags. Squirt some orange and yellow paint into a clear zip bag, seal it well and then tape your sunshine writing bag to a window.
Preschoolers can use their fingers to make pre-writing strokes or write sight words on the bag. Either way they’re working on strengthening those oh so important fine motor skills.
Talk about a wonderful way to enjoy some summer learning with your little kids!
