We’re learning all about Large Sea Creatures this week and of course, we can’t forget about sea turtles. This Sea Turtle Activity for Kids was a wonderful addition to our sea turtle life cycle lesson plans.

I seriously can’t believe how much the little guy and baby girl enjoyed this turtle hatch sensory bin. They had so much fun “hatching” the baby sea turtles and moving them to the “ocean.”

Sea turtles are members of the reptile family. They lay their eggs in the sand. Sea turtles have a large shell on their back to help protect them. They are great swimmers and can swim far distances.

Sea Turtle Sensory Activity for Kids

What you’ll need

  • Container of Sand
  • Container of Water
  • Hand Strainer or Scoop
  • Rocks

Here’s how to do it

  • Encourage the child to “hatch” the sea turtles (dig in the sand to find the rocks) and help to move them to the “ocean” (water). 
  • Once all the sea turtles are in the ocean, scoop them out of the water and bury them back in the sand to play again.

I’m always amazed by how much the kiddos enjoy the sensory activities we do as part of our monthly thematic studies and this sea turtle activity for kids was definitely no exception!
