Your preschool and kindergarten kiddos will have a blast learning about sea sponges with this sponge squeezing and water transfer activity. This easy ocean sponges sensory tray is a fun way to explore texture with young children.
Invertebrate Sponges STEAM for Kids
What you’ll need
- 2 Bowls
- How does a sea sponge feel?
- Cut sponges into a variety of shapes.
- Place one bowl of water and one empty bowl on the tray with the sponges.
- Soak up water and squeeze it into the other bowl.
Did you know that sea sponges are invertebrates, which means they don’t have a backbone? How cool is that? Coral sponge activities are just one of the many awesome ways to explore ocean science with little kids!
I cut a pack of inexpensive sponges into sea sponge shapes and then put them on a tray with the two bowls. Both the little guy and baby girl had a wonderful time transferring the water back and forth using only the sponges.
Little kids love STEAM activities, especially when there’s water involved. After all, what could be more fun than splashing around on a hot day? This sea sponge activity is sure to be a huge hit with your preschool and kindergarten learners this Summer!
