Here’s a quick & easy science & nature investigation station to encourage scientific reasoning, fine motor skills and of course logic too. Don’t forget to add this fun waterfall activity to your next preschool water theme!
It was so beautiful last week and we were able to play in the water just about every day. We did quite a few activities from this month’s Island Treasure theme and today’s Waterfall Activity is absolutely perfect to add to your next preschool water theme.
A waterfall is where water flows over a steep drop, landing in a pool below. The rock formation behind a waterfall has been worn away, sometimes forming cave-like shelters.
Little kids love water activities and this particular one was a great way to introduce physical science concepts too! What a quick & easy idea to encourage scientific reasoning, fine motor skills and of course logic too.
Baby girl had a blast pouring water from one container to another and of course making waterfalls by pouring water on different items.
And as a homeschool mama, I loved that this activity encouraged creative thinking and problem solving skills as well as lots of other important early learning skills.

Waterfall Activity for Preschool Water Theme
- Set out a bin and full water bottles on a towel. Place a bucket of differently shapes items next to the bin, e.g. rocks, spoon, blocks, cups, jewels.
- Encourage children to experiment with placing an item into the bin then pouring water over it.
- Ask, “What type of splash does it make?”
- What do you know about waterfalls?
- What happens when you pour water on items?
- How could you make a small splash? Big splash?

As an Experience Early Learning Blog Ambassador, I receive the Experience Early Learning Preschool curriculum in exchange for my honest and authentic stories resulting from our personal experiences. As always, my opinions on awesome stuff for little kids are 100% my own. Keep in mind that all preschoolers do things in their own time and on their own terms. What one is ready for, another might not be. Please use your best mama judgement when planning activities for your little kids. #preschool #homeschool #mgtblogger
