Spring Movement Activities for Preschoolers

I love adding movement activities to our preschool lessons! Getting your preschoolers up and moving around the classroom has tons of benefits for your little learners. Plus, it’s a great way to get the wiggles out.

Movement increases memory and attention so it’s a fantastic way to help your preschoolers remember all the things they’re learning. Check out some of our favorite Spring movement activities for preschoolers to do with this pattern spring preschool worksheet:

Spring Flower Movement Game

This spring movement activity for preschoolers will require some prep from you, but it’s totally worth it! You can even enlist your preschoolers’ help for more cutting and pasting practice.

First, cut out several flower “heads.” Then, write a different movement on each flower. Some ideas include: wiggling like a snake, hopping like a bunny, and flying like a bird. Next, attach each flower head to a craft stick stem. Finally, put them all in a flower pot and take turns choosing a Spring flower and completing the movement activity on the flower.

Sidewalk Chalk Obstacle Course

Sidewalk chalk obstacle courses are a favorite spring movement activity at our house! It’s a great way to build important gross motor skills with your preschoolers this Spring. You’ll only need sidewalk chalk and imagination for this spring preschool movement activity.

First, use the chalk to draw a path with various activities for your preschoolers to do on the sidewalk. We like to draw swirls of bumblebees for spinning. Then, we use “lilypads” to hop across like frogs and “flight paths” for birds to soar across the sky.

You can designate a start and finish for your obstacle course or let your preschoolers choose where to begin. It’s a fantastic way to build gross motor skills like balance and coordination.

The Springtime Dance

Another way we love to have fun and get moving is by incorporating silly dances in our preschool lessons. Dancing helps preschoolers to get moving, build concentration and focus, as well as develop coordination. Check out this Springtime Dance from Jack Hartmann for a silly song that’s filled with adorable movements for your preschoolers to imitate as they sing along.
