Fine Motor Skills
These skills are important early learning skills that children must develop to write properly. Fine motor skills involve:

Colorful Unicorn Sensory Bin
Rice in a variety of rainbow colors, mixed together in an exciting Unicorn Sensory Bin for little learners. Add measuring cups and spoons for scooping and pouring fun. Sequins, colorful plastic gems, and wooden stars also make for fun “treasures” your children can find hidden in the rice.
The bright colors provide visual stimulation. The rice and hidden objects are a tactile delight for your little one’s sense of touch. Finally, the sound of rice pouring in and out of measuring cups is music for the ears!
Rainbow Unicorn Science
Preschoolers and kindergartners will enjoy this easy unicorn science experiment.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Warm Water
- Rainbow candies like Skittles
- A round plate
- A pitcher for the water
Arrange the rainbow candies around the outside of the plate in alternating colors. We had fun talking about the order of colors in the rainbow and trying to arrange our candy in rainbow color order. Then, slowly pour the warm water into the middle of the plate until it touches all the candies. Finally, watch as a rainbow of colors appears right before your eyes!
Magical Unicorn Lacing Activity
You can use completed color by number unicorn printables for a fun lacing activity with your little ones too. After your children have colored their rainbow unicorns, cut them out and use a hole punch to create holes in your unicorn’s mane. (This is a great time for children to practice fine motor skills as they squeeze the hole puncher.)
Then, give kids pre-cut yarn strings. Kids can have fun choosing their own colors or use rainbow yarn for even more unicorn fun. Finally, lace yarn to create a beautiful 3-dimensional yarn mane for your colorful unicorns.
Lacing activities are great for building fine motor skills and coordination with early learners. Plus, it’s an easy way to get more out of these color by number unicorn printables.
