Number Stories
For more preschool math fun, consider reading a fun counting book. I love reading to my kids. It’s an excellent way to snuggle up, encourage a love of books, and use our imagination! These preschool color by number ocean pages are the perfect activity to do with one of our favorite ocean-themed books:
- Down East in the Ocean* by Connie and Peter Roop
- One Giant Splash* by Michael Dahl
- Ten Little Fish* by Audrey Wood
Our favorite is Ten Little Fish*. My kids love the rhymes and the way the book moves backward from 10, unlike many traditional counting books. However, the pictures in Michael Dahl’s One Giant Splash* are a favorite for me.
After your preschooler decodes his color by number ocean worksheet and after you have snuggled up to read a fun counting tale, why not sing a song together?
Ocean Counting Songs
Another great way to add learning fun to your day is with music. Did you know that exposing preschoolers to music helps them with language development, literacy, and motor skills? Including songs and fingerplays in your preschool lessons is an excellent way to help get little learners ready for kindergarten.
My kids love music. As soon as they hear music, even a jingle on the radio, they start to dance. My little fish just love to wiggle! If your preschoolers love to move to the beat, you’ll definitely want to try one of these ocean counting songs with them:
- In the Big Blue Sea by KidsTV
- 5 Little Fish by Jack Hartmann (This song is also available in Spanish!)
- 1,2,3,4,5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive!
That last song is a big favorite around here! Not only is it a great counting song, it’s also an excellent way to learn about rhyming words and sequencing. The song tells a story that helps children to remember number order and teaches about cause and effect.
Counting Crackers
After counting, reading, and singing, your little learners are definitely going to be ready for a snack. Why not add some math fun to snack time too?
With some popular fish-shaped crackers, you can add preschool math to snack time too. Give kids some goldfish crackers and have them count their fish-shaped snacks. With more advanced learners, you can practice counting by 2 or 5. In this way, preschool learners can practice one-to-one correspondence as well as skip counting.
Whether you’re interested in counting fish snacks or not, don’t miss out on these fun ocean color by number pages. Your preschoolers are sure to love coloring these cute ocean animals. Plus, color by code activities are an excellent way to learn all by themselves!
