Spring Flower Unit Study for Kindergarten
I’m really excited about having a flower-themed unit study with my little learners this Spring! There are so many fun activities to participate in as we learn about flowers and explore how things grow.
Books about Flowers for Kindergartners
Here are some of the books we will be reading aloud together during our flower unit study:
- Miss Rumphius* by Barbara Cooney
- Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt* by Kate Messner
- Planting a Rainbow* by Lois Ehlert
Then, you can add in some math learning opportunities with this flower math idea for kindergartners.
Flower Petal Math Activity for Kindergartners
First, draw stems and flower centers on paper. Next, write numbers in the flower centers. Then, cut out many different colored flower petals from construction paper. Have your kindergartners practice counting and one-to-one correspondence by attaching the correct number of petals to each flower center.
Ready to build addition and subtraction skills with your kindergartners? Write a simple equation in the flower center and have them place the correct number of petals around the outside.
Another idea would be to learn about fact families by writing fact families on the petals and having kids put the right fact families with each flower center.
Flower Maze Spring Kindergarten Field Trip
Have you ever visited a flower maze? They’re similar to corn mazes and totally perfect for a Spring field trip with kindergartners. Gather your kiddos and these free printable flower mazes for a fun afternoon at a real live flower maze!
You can probably find a sunflower maze near you this Spring. Plus, visiting a sunflower maze is an excellent opportunity for some really adorable photos of your little learners too.
