Back to School Books

I’ve always been a big fan of read-alouds with little kids. Reading aloud to your preschoolers and kindergartners is the perfect way to encourage a lifestyle of learning and a love of books.

You can get your little kids excited about learning by starting off the school year with some wonderful stories!

  • Llama Llama Misses Mamaby Anna Dewdney. My kids love the Llama Llama books, especially baby girl. Not only are these books beautifully illustrated, but they also feature an adorable llama character and include rhyming verses. This particular book is a wonderful way to prepare your kiddos for being away from home for the first time.
  • Time for School, Mouse!by Laura Numeroff. This cute book is from the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series, with the same sweet characters and beautiful illustrations. If your kids have loved the other books in this series, then this one is sure to be a favorite too.
  • The Berenstain Bears Go to School* by Stan & Jan Berenstain. We’ve always enjoyed The Berenstain Bears and your little learners will too! This adorable story about Sister Bear being nervous to start kindergartner was obviously no exception. Your kids will definitely be able to relate to this read-aloud about having the first day of school jitters.
