Back to School Books

I’m a big fan of reading together. Reading aloud is the perfect way to foster a love of learning and show little ones just how exciting books can be.

Beginning the preschool year with some amazing stories is an excellent way to get your preschoolers excited about learning and ready to go back to school. Don’t forget to check out these adorable back to school stories.

  • Llama Llama Misses Mama* by Anna Dewdney. We love Llama Llama books! This series has beautiful art, a lovable llama character, and rhyming verses. These precious books are a favorite with my kids and the theme of this particular book is perfect for preparing your preschool learner for the classroom.
  • Time for School, Mouse!* by Laura Numeroff. This cute book is from the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series, with the same sweet characters and beautiful illustrations. If your kids loved Numeroff’s other tales, this preschool themed story is likely to be a big hit at your house too.
  • Rex Wrecks It!* by Ben Clanton. This fun dinosaur-themed book is perfect for active kids that might need a little help learning about sharing. It also teaches kids about working together. If you have a dinosaur fan at home, this is the perfect preschool book to read together.

The Wheels on the Bus

Almost as much as books and art, I love incorporating music into our lessons. Exposing your preschoolers to music helps increase their vocabulary. Also, dancing helps build motor skills and teaches them to practice self-expression.

The Wheels on the Bus is a classic preschool song that’s perfect for back to school. Plus, there are lots of great hand movements to accompany each verse which helps preschool learners build important skills like coordination and a mind-body connection.

Back to School Math Activities

Check out my back to school themed color by number worksheets for preschoolers for more math learning fun. Color by number worksheets are great for practicing fine motor skills, number identification, and building important skills like critical thinking and concentration.

Don’t forget to share your preschool math learning ideas in the comments. I love reading about your fun learning ideas too!

After you download these back to school counting clip cards, you’ll need to cut them out and then laminate each one. Don’t forget to include manipulatives with each set!

I love to store my clip cards in small bins, workboxes or even zip pouches with a few clothespins and a handful of themed manipulatives.

These are great for morning work, centers and of course as independent table activities too!

Keep in mind that all preschoolers do things in their own time and on their own terms. What one is ready for, another might not be. Please use your best mama judgement when planning activities for your little kids.

I hope you enjoy using these back to school counting clip cards with your little kids as much as I enjoyed creating them with mine.
