5 Big Reasons Why Every Mama Of Little Kids Should Homeschool Preschool with Mother Goose Time

A while back we discovered a preschool curriculum that the little guy and I both loved. And almost three years later, we’re still using it. I stumbled across this post in the archives and thought it needed a bit of an update for 2019.

So here it is, y’all! The best preschool curriculum out there hands down for homeschooling your little kids!

Keep in mind that all preschoolers do things in their own time and on their own terms. What one is ready for, another might not be. Please use your best mama judgement when planning activities for your little kids.

I can’t even begin to wrap my head around the fact that we’ve been using Mother Goose Time for a year already. It seems like just yesterday that we celebrated the little guy turning two and opened our very first little yellow school bus box.

And here we are a year later planning another birthday party and starting to think about preschool.

Or not. Because here’s the thing. We’ve fallen completely and totally head over heels in love with what we’re already doing. I mean, what more could we ask for? It’s quick. It’s easy. And of course the little guy is thriving.

1. A new theme delivered to your door each month

We’ve learned about everything from what it’s like down on the farm to life at the pond. And next year looks just as fun!

The little guy and I have explored science, faith, and art. We’ve done experiments and made stuff with our friends. And of course we learn about God. It’s not just a curriculum, it’s a lifestyle. I find myself pulling activities from the Teacher Guide all the time. From the monthly storybooks and CD’s to the shape stamps and cookie cutters, it all gets used over and over again. Mother Goose Time makes it easy to encourage a lifelong love of learning.

2. Aligns with our state’s early childhood learning standards

You can learn more about how Mother Goose Time aligns with each state’s standards on their website, but I love knowing that it’s already taken care of.

I’m definitely one of those moms. I have our state’s Infant-Toddler Learning Standards for Early Childhood printed and put in sheet protectors in a binder. Um hello! Do you want to know how many times I’ve actually opened that binder since we started using Mother Goose Time? None!

Side note: I think it’s safe to say I won’t be wasting my time worrying about Pre-Kindergarten.

3. Having everything you need already ready to go

A daily discovery bag and basic art supplies is really all you need for each day’s activities. The gathering list includes stuff you probably already have around the house.

The little guy loves to open the daily discovery bag with me. We get up, do our calendar and weather, and then introduce the daily topic. It’s as simple as pulling a bag out of the box and then cutting it open. We talk about the daily topic poster and then get right into the activities. There’s usually so little prep involved that it’s easy to get things ready in just a few minutes while he’s busy coloring. Oh, and did I mention the daily coloring sheets? 4. Finally saying so long & farewell to creating lesson plans

And I do mean that literally. I know I’ve mentioned this in other posts, but before we started using Mother Goose Time, I was spending hours on Pinterest each week planning activities. Not anymore. If you’re curious what creating lesson plans looks like for me these days, you can see yourself here.

I don’t know how they come up with this stuff, but they’ve literally thought of everything. Each month, you receive a Teacher Guide full of activities. I’m talking 120+ of them. You figure, there are 20 daily discovery bags and each day includes circle time ideas, a suggested story, an invitation to create or make and play, and an investigation station. There are also at least two other activities for the day, which focus on other skills and standards.

5. Lots of opportunities to encourage creativity

The short version is that little kids need time + space to be creative. The process of making stuff is more important than the product. There’s lots of time for learning how to follow directions and recreate whatever example is put in front of them. What’s important for toddlers and preschoolers is encouraging creative thinking and problem solving, promoting fine motor skills, and of course providing new materials and mediums for sensory exploration.
