This month’s focus topic is Authentic Assessment and one of the things that we’ve been talking about is creating portfolios. Last year, I didn’t really do much of anything as far as documenting what we were up to with preschool homeschool stuff. I jotted down what we did each day in my planner and that was it.
Although our weekly blog posts do serve as a digital portfolio of sorts, I thought I’d share a little bit about how we’re using a secret Facebook group to document our experiences.

A while ago, I decided to create a Facebook group to share what the little guy and I were up to with Mother Goose Time. We’re both head over heels in love with this curriculum and I wanted to document what we were doing each week.
There are at least a few companies that will print Facebook posts as a book and that seemed like a quick & easy solution for this memory-keeping mama. You know, because I’m all about saving time.
Side note: We actually did this very same thing for the first year or two of the little guy’s life and had the books printed by a company called My Social Book. They were of course all kinds of awesome and I’ll obviously cherish them forever.
So what exactly do I share via our private Facebook group? A little bit of everything.
Photos. Accomplishments. Books that we’ve read. Projects that we’ve done. It really is a digital scrapbook of our entire preschool homeschool experience.
I’m a memory keeper by nature, so this is really just an extension of what we’re already doing. We have a portfolio in the form of a binder full of projects that we’ve done too. And if that’s not enough, there’s also an Iris case full of stuff that I just couldn’t bear to part with.
Yep, I’m just a bit sentimental. But hey… They’re only little for so long.
We’ve had so much fun already this year. And next month is all about a Rainforest Adventure. We’re definitely looking forward to it.
