Another week of Alphabet Island and the little guy and I are definitely loving it! Today was all about caves and we did this awesome Cave Designs investigation station.

This month’s focus topic is Curriculum Design and of course one of the reasons we love Mother Goose Time is the monthly themes. We’ve learned about everything from Community Helpers and Nursery Rhymes to Bugs + Crawly Things.
Why do we love the monthly themes so much? The list of reasons is endless, but here are a few of my favorites.
- Little kids of different ages and ability levels can learn together – Mother Goose Time is designed for little kids from 18 months through kindergarten, but each monthly curriculum kit could also be adapted to include older kids.
- Awesome projects and activities that encourage interactive learning – Every little yellow school bus box that we receive is full of books, puzzles, and games that focus on the monthly theme. There are also creative projects and sensory activities that relate to each topic.
- Basic subjects are learned within the context of a particular topic – This month’s Alphabet Island theme includes lots of stuff for teaching little kids all about math + reasoning as well as language + literacy. And of course there are STEAM Stations too.
With a just-turned-three, sometimes the daily topic takes a little bit of explaining.
I don’t recall ever talking about caves before, so before we got into today’s activities, we needed to learn exactly what a cave is.
Something that’s really surprised me about theme-based learning is how much we both love it. We can open our little yellow school bus box and do as much or as little as we want.
We can work on one or two activities each day or we can do everything in the Teacher Guide as well as extra stuff and even check out more books from the library.
I love that monthly themes help us to organize our learning and Mother Goose Time does an awesome job of putting everything together. As a homeschool mama, I definitely couldn’t ask for me.
Don’t forget to check back next week to see what we’re up to with our new Alphabet Island theme. And if you missed our preschool space post a while back, you can check it out here.

As a Mother Goose Time blog ambassador, I receive the Mother Goose Time Preschool curriculum in exchange for my honest and authentic stories resulting from our personal experiences. As always, my opinions on awesome stuff for little kids are 100% my own. Keep in mind that all preschoolers do things in their own time and on their own terms. What one is ready for, another might not be. Please use your best mama judgement when planning activities for your little kids. #mgtblogger
