We have a few more pond-themed activities to share and this one was definitely my favorite. We talked about submerged pond plants a few weeks ago and I was totally drawing a blank as far as what we could use to make our own.
After thinking about it for a quite a while, it finally occurred to me. Um, hello! I have more fiber + thread than I know what to do with, so… I pulled out lots of green stuff and got to work setting it all up.

Submerged Pond Plants Invitation to Create
What you’ll need
- Paper Plates
- Small stones
- Fiber + Thread
Here’s how to do it
- Paint the paper plate blue and sprinkle glitter over it. Let it dry.
- When the paper plate is dry, draw your submerged pond plants with glue and then press on the fiber + thread.
- Use the small stones at the bottom of the pond and the buttons for fish.
This is an awesome way to give your little kids some creative space. I love process art for exactly that reason. There’s no right or wrong.
A lot of the time, especially with invitation to create activities, we have an inspiration photo. But today, I sat down and worked right alongside the little guy.
While he was creating, so was I. That of course means no process pictures, but also, it means we spent time together, creating together. And that, my friends, is more important than anything.
So today’s lesson is forget about everything else in life and spend time making stuff with your little kids. They’re only little for long.
