As a Mother Goose Time blog ambassador, I receive the Mother Goose Time Preschool curriculum in exchange for my honest and authentic stories resulting from our personal experiences. As always, my opinions on awesome stuff for little kids are 100% my own. Keep in mind that all toddlers do things in their own time and on their own terms. What one is ready for, another might not be. Please use your best mama judgement when planning activities for your little kids.
This month’s Experience God from Mother Goose Time was all about worries. We read the story “Jesus Walks on Water” and talked about Philippians 4:6.
Don’t worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything.
Of course there was this awesome Stormy Weather activity too. You know, because little kids love water. We filled our sensory bin, grabbed a few lightweight cups, and got right to it.
This one definitely took on a life of its own. Given the opportunity, the little guy would happily spend an entire day scooping and pouring. Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea.
And splashin’ around and makin’ waves? Seriously every little kid’s dream.
If you’re interested in putting together your very own Stormy Weather activity, keep reading to find out how.
What you’ll need
- Large bowl or container
- Small objects that float
Ask: What happens to a lake when it is windy and storming outside?
Here’s how to do it
- Give each child a small object that floats.
- Take turns making waves in the bowl of water.
- Place a few of the floating objects in the water. Stir up the water and explain that God sees us and knows when we are having a bad, stormy day.
- Invite children to rescue the floating pieces by catching them and removing them from the water just like God rescues us.
Explain: God is bigger than the storm. We can pray and ask him to keep us safe.
When we were finished with this activity, the little guy was all for some water play.
So many fun ideas each month. And this was definitely one of his favorites.
Then again, just about anything that involves water ends up on that list. Lol…
