We’re getting close to wrapping things up with the studio project, which means it’s about time to start thinking about putting together a plan for my creative space. We’re down to 8 days until we can get ourselves moved in. Can you believe it?
Last night, I spent some time touching things up. There were quite a few imperfections in the trim that needed some combination of puttied and painted. I’m assuming my husband will be working on the baseboard today too.
The little guy was out here for a while helping me. In other words, he was running back and forth across the studio squealing. He’s hilarious. We’re basically to the point where everything is cleaned up enough that he can hang out with us.
The rest of this week will be spent finishing up the few odd and ends that are left on our to-do list and then I mentioned to Tim that we should go get a couple of cabinets and start working on my built-ins, so we can get those in as soon as the floor is completely cured. Not sure if we’ll get to that or not, though.
I was actually thinking about getting unfinished cabinets and whitewashing them. And then using the same stain we used for the floor to make a counter top. I figured that’d make a great base for building bookshelves on each side of the window.
Another thing that’s on my to-do list is to refinish our table and chairs and whitewash those as well. Eventually, we’re going to build an island, but that’s not a priority at the moment. I want to get moved in and get an idea of how things feel in our new space before we buy or build too much.
I’m really thinking I’m going to hold off on doing any shopping until everything is in and organized. At that point, I’ll have a better idea of what works and what doesn’t.
Here’s what I’m thinking.
We literally have stuff scattered throughout this entire house – in our bedroom, my husband’s office, the living room, etc. Basically, wherever I could find space is where it ended up. Unfortunately, that means things are a bit of a mess and I kind of need to do something about it.
That’s where the idea for 52 Weeks to an Organized Workspace came from, but before I can even do that, I need to get everything out here.
I’ve known for quite a while that I wanted to create separate workspaces, so here’s how I’m going to get started.
Where’s E’s standing is going to be where all of our computers and cutters are going to end up, so everything along those lines that I bring out will automatically go in that corner. At the opposite end of my space, I plan to put anything and everything related to scrapbooking. And along the plank wall will be where we keep all the jewelry making and metal stamping supplies.
Yep, that means I’m going to be unpacking box by box. And yes, I do realize I’m going to have quite a mess for a while, but the advantage is that everything will already be somewhat where it belongs and it’ll be easier to organize each week as we work through the challenges. I’ll be able to see exactly how much I have that fits into each category and then I can build or buy whatever I need and of course leave some room to grow.
I’ll definitely be sure to share some pictures as I work through this process, so you can see exactly how things come together.
Psst… Are you frustrated by how disorganized you are and how little you’re getting done? You’re definitely going to want to come hang out with us in the 52 Weeks group and chat about workspace & workflow and living an inspired life.
Thanks so much for visiting and have a great week!
